By touching a body, we touch everything that has ever happened to it. For a few brief moments, we hold all of the client’s stories in our hands. We witness someone’s experience of their own flesh, through some of the most powerful means possible: the contact of our hands, the acceptance of the body without judgment, and the occasional listening ear. With these gestures, we reach across the isolation of the human experience and hold another person’s legend.

In massage therapy, we show up and ask, in so many ways, what it is like to be another human being. In doing so, we build a bridge that may heal us both.

Our Sessions

Intake and assessment

Our sessions are intentionally designed for spaciousness.  On your first visit, we will spend some in-depth time talking through your health and personal history.  Together,  and with careful assessment, we will create a treatment that is uniquely for you on that particular day.  With ample time for checking in before and after each session, we are able to honor the full length of your scheduled hands-on treatment while also providing continuity of care across visits.

Trauma-informed

For us, trauma-informed bodywork means that we have a lot of experience working with people who have experienced various forms of trauma (disclosed to us or not) and an understanding that every body is holding a very personal story and experience of living in it.  Our work is slow and careful, and individually designed for each person, so no two sessions are the same.  Some of the modalities we integrate may be experienced as more energy-based work - this often allows for an acknowledgement and release of the physical and emotional tension that is being stored.  Sometimes that can be experienced as deep breathing, crying, laughing, discomfort, joy, or, simply just relief.  Our intention is to create a safe space to allow for whatever needs to happen for a person to achieve more ease in their body and mind.

Our Specialties

Prenatal Massage

Pregnancy is a time of intense change, both physically and emotionally, as your body expands to accommodate your growing baby. Massage with a specialized practitioner can play a vital role in supporting a healthy and comfortable pregnancy.  Prenatal sessions address specific areas that become stressed in pregnancy, such as the low back and hips, feet and legs, rib cage and neck, and can help to alleviate conditions including sciatica, SI joint dysfunction, pubic symphysis dysfunction, carpal tunnel syndrome, and leg cramps. We incorporate postural awareness and breathing techniques to help settle and soothe your nervous system, and prepare for labor and birth. Prenatal massage is safe during all 3 trimesters and is performed in the side-lying and semi-reclining positions for maximal support and comfort. Your session will be modified as necessary to address your particular health and pregnancy needs.

Postpartum Massage

Once your new baby has arrived, it is even more essential for you to receive emotional support and physical care to ensure a positive postpartum experience. While most of the attention and care is focused on your newborn during this time, postpartum massage is all about nurturing YOU.. Sessions are designed to help your body recover from childbirth, support the hormonal shift of new parenthood, and address the surprising physical demands of caring for a tiny human.  Whether this is your first or fifth baby, and you are 1 week or 9 months postpartum – postpartum sessions offer the space for you to relax and rejuvenate, experience deep healing, and connection with your body, and to learn valuable self-care techniques during this precious time.

Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy®

This ancient form of healing work, developed by Dr. Rosita Arvigo, helps to restore the body to its natural balance by correcting the position of organs that may be restricting the flow of blood, lymph, nerve, and chi energy. Congestion in the abdomen and pelvic bowl can manifest in various ways – digestive disorders, fertility issues, painful or irregular menstruation, menopause symptoms, depression and other mood disorders, low back pain, and migraines are just a few. Non-invasive external massage of the abdomen, low back and hips can help to guide internal organs to their optimal alignment to improve flow and function. Your initial session will include a thorough and comprehensive review of your health history and needs, and evaluation of the structural alignment of your spine, sacrum, and hips. Self-care abdominal massage will be taught and recommendations for complementary therapy may be made to support your professional treatments.  Arvigo Therapy is offered by Erin only.

Ortho-bionomy

Ortho-bionomy is a gentle, non-invasive method of healing that supports the body's innate ability to restore balance.  Using a system of subtle movements, gentle positioning, compression  and attentive contact, this approach stimulates the body's reflexes for self-correction, empowering the client's own healing and self-awareness. This system of care is incredibly effective for a wide range of classic musculo-skeletal conditions, such as sciatica, TMJD, headaches, fibromyalgia, and joint pain. With little effort, the body is reminded to release into a pattern of alignment, resulting in profound pain and tension relief. Ortho-bionomy  is offered by Meghan  only.
